Normalization to the peak or mean EMG amplitude during the task investigated

Normalization to the mean/ peak EMG amplitude from the task under investigation, usually obtained from the peak over trial, but not from MVC trials. One value is used, not a separate value from each trial. This method includes:

  • Peak or mean can be derived from data acquired separately from multiple trials, or from the ensemble average of the multiple trials.

  • Voluntary contractions do not involve the synchronised discharge of many motor units, which is necessary to estimate evoked responses recorded from muscles.

  • There are no caveats. Simply, it’s not possible to interpret the data.
