Non-normalized EMG amplitude

EMG amplitude signal expressed in absolute, non-normalized arbitrary units or raw (milli/micro) Volt (e.g., root mean square [RMS], average rectified value [ARV]).

  • This represents a viable alternative when Mmax cannot be elicited.

  • Non-normalising to Mmax makes it difficult to elucidate central (i.e., the mechanism(s) of interest for the user) versus peripheral effects on evoked responses.

  • It is valid only for a within-session experimental design.
